Dr. Marilyn Fitzpatrick

Professor Marilyn Fitzpatrick, Ph.D., is a counselling psychologist and the Program Director of the Counselling Psychology Program at McGill University. She is the co-Director, with Prof. Martin Drapeau, of the McGill Psychotherapy Process Research Group (MPPRG). She has done extensive research on the processes that underlie successful psychotherapy with particular attention to the therapeutic alliance and the experiential involvement of clients in sessions. She has also studied the use of Outcomes Monitoring measures to improve psychotherapy and the involvement of therapists throughout Canada in implementing outcomes monitoring. Her work has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) and  the Fonds québécois de recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC) among others. As the Director of the Counselling Psychology Programs at McGill University, she is responsible for accreditations by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), the American Psychological Association (APA), l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ), and l’Ordre des conseillers et conseillères en orientation du Québec (OCCOQ).

Dr. Fitzpatrick is the co-founder of Medipsy, a Montreal based institute for the provision of psychological services. In this role, she is responsible for a group of experienced clinicians, including psychologists and neuropsychologists, who offer a range of evidence-based psychological services to the community. Medipsy also offers psychologists and other professionals certified continuing education workshops on scientifically sound treatments.
